When I was told I’d be interviewing Kate Hudson to chat about summer style and travel, I prepared myself to sit down with a very cool, down-to-earth, and seriously chic chick… And that’s exactly what I got! I walked into her suite at Mr. C Hotel in Beverly Hills to find her alongside her two incredibly sweet boys, who also took part in the interview at times. (Her son, Ryder, explained to me that he makes her coffee every day… Melt!) It was an altogether relaxed and casual sit-down, where we chatted about her favorite Ann Taylor pieces and her obsession: Coconut oil.
TP: What are your summer travel essentials?
KH: We have a thing in our family, we like the ‘Sting’ outfit; we like the white-on-white. The white-on-white is always a favorite. White cozy pants that are flowy, and then a white button down… I love the knits that they’re doing, [points to the rack of Ann Taylor’s summer collection] I always love to have a good summer knit… So I live in those! And always dresses and little shorts.

TP: What’s in your carry on?
KH: [gestures to her kids] Well, they’re my carry ons! [laughs] I love fuzzy socks, I always go on airplanes with really cozy socks. I usually try to take a big cozy scarf, which I never end up with, this one always ends up with it. [referring to her son, Bingham] And then I bring essential oils: I’ll do like a lavender, eucalyptus, and those are really the basics. Other than that as long as I have my wallet and my passport!
TP: What’s in your beach bag?
KH: Mine is just like coconut oil and some cash! [laughs] And hopefully some kind of CC cream with a sunblock. That’s really it. For some reason I love the St. Barth’s oil, (Ligne St. Barth Coconut Oil) it’s just so good and so decadent. We’re a coconut oil family, so I carry a jar with me. I love it.
TP: And what’s Mother’s Day usually like for you?
KH: We just hang out at the house, we don’t do much. We just do the family and the kids… It’s really about the kids. I get to sleep in, Ryder makes a really good cappuccino!
